The facade of this palace is both eccentric and splendid. And that’s the reason Hawa Mahal has become a symbol of Jaipur in various media. Scores of travellers gaze at this facade everyday and capture it in their memories and cameras. Apart from its unique shape, this palace is also rendered beautiful by the niches and windows on the facade. This openings were created to facilitate the queens and the ladies of the harem to watch the proceedings on the street without being noticed. It is worth climbing up to the upper storeys of the building; you’ll be able to peep down from the windows, the way queens did. From the rooftop-terrace there are beautiful views of Jaipur. You can see Jantar Mantar, the expansive City Palace Complex and the hills behind.
Travel Tip: Most of the tour operators suggest travellers to check out the palace from outside; according to them there is nothing worth watching inside. But if you aren’t pressed for time, going inside the palace is worth your while.
