Drive for just about one hour, through the picturesque Kangra Valley, from Dharamshala, and you reach the historical citadel – Kangra Fort. This fort is believed to be the oldest fort in the country. Set amidst the mesmerizing landscape, Kangra Fort overlooks the confluence of Manjhi and Banganga rivers. As you climb up the fort, don’t miss to cherish the views from the spiralling ramparts. It is believed that this fort was constructed by Susharma Chandra who has a mention in Mahabharata. In its heyday, Kangra Fort was the home of the Katoch rulers. It had been ransacked several times and the 1905 earthquake wreaked havoc on it. The fort is entirely in ruins and to reach the topmost part, be ready for a climb of 15-20 min. The path is a combination of stairs and ramp.
