Top Station, the highest spot on Munnar-Kodaikanal Road, offers a panoramic view of Western Ghats. It makes for an interesting excursion out of Munnar. Trekkers can drive up to Top Station and then take a 12 km long wooded trail to Kurangani in Tamilnadu. During colonial times, shipments of tea were transferred to Top Station by monorail (which was eventually upgraded to narrow gauge), and from there they were shifted to the valley floor in Kottagudi (Tamilnadu) by an aerial ropeway. None out of the railway or ropeway exist anymore. The distance from Munnar Town is about 35 km and the journey is so scenic that I have created a separate post on it (you can check it out by clicking here).
Here are the pictures:
The area around Top Station wears a bluish veil when the famed Neelankurinji flowers bloom but that happens only once in 12 years. It is said that the next bloom will be in 2018.
